These are a beautiful pair of vintage Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) sunglasses, likely dating from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s.
During this period, Yves Saint Laurent leaned heavily into "Art Deco" revival and nautical themes. The combination of the translucent honey frame with the "stovetop" or woven blue/silver arms is a classic 1980s high-fashion look meant to bridge the gap between casual resort wear and evening elegance.
The chevron-patterned arms make this pair much more desirable to vintage collectors than the plain-arm versions. Collectors often look for these "decorative temple" models because they are instantly recognizable as 80s YSL.
Style and Design
• Frame Shape: These are an "Oversized Butterfly" or soft "Aviator" shape, which was extremely popular in the late 70s and 80s.
• Material: The front frame appears to be made of translucent acetate (optyl), which has aged into a classic "champagne" or honey tone.
• Temple Detail: The most distinctive feature is the woven or chevron-patterned temples in light blue and silver/white. This level of intricate decorative work on the arms is a hallmark of YSL's "Rive Gauche" era design.
• Lenses: They feature gradient grey lenses (darker at the top, lighter at the bottom), which was the standard for high-fashion eyewear of that period to allow for easier reading while outdoors.
condition : used but very well maintained. Not a scratch in the glasses. The frame is functioning perfect.
